Each season Girls on the Run Frederick County identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 8-15 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.
The Head Coach is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position entails approximately four hours per week for a 10-week commitment.
The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach at a Girls on the Run program site while serving as a role model and mentor for program participants. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.
The Junior Coach is a volunteer position for high school students to assist the Head and Assistant Coaches at a Girls on the Run program site. The position entails approximately 1.5-3 hours per week for a 10-week commitment.
There will be three coach training opportunities before the fall 2017 season starts. Please select the session you’ll be attending within your coach registration form.
In-person coach training is required for ALL new coaches and for all returning coaches who have not attended an in-person training in the last year. Prior to your in-person coach training, you must complete the online training, which will be assigned to your GOTR Learning Academy transcript. Please see below for the exact dates and location of training sessions.
Be sure to register for the training for the age group you will be coaching. GOTR is 3rd-5th grades; Heart & Sole is 6th-8th grades. You only need to register and attend one session.
In-Person Coach Trainings are tentatively scheduled for July 22, August 12, and September 9. Locations will be announced.
Coaches may indicate a preference for the site at which they would like to coach. If coaches do not have a preference, we will assign them to a location in need of volunteers.
Each team receives a site allowance. Coaches must submit all receipts related to program expenses at the end of the season and will be reimbursed for an amount not to exceed the site allowance.
